Xiyuan joined the OSE program after completing a Bachelor of Engineering in Marine Resources Development Technology in 2017 at Shandong University, China. He completed a bachelor thesis on characteristics of the peripheral flow field of circular cylinder. During his undergraduate he conducted also research in remote sensing to estimate seasonal variation of marine phytoplankton in the South China Sea. He was also involved in several student training program to study Marine Bacillus and the New Zealand Hybrid Abalone. In his PhD research, he aims to develop an understanding of fresh water flux induced coastal dynamics using regional ocean models.
