From Riverside (CA), Tyler graduated UCLA with a double major in Geophysics and Math/Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at age 19, and begun research in paleoclimatology. After being awarded the Presidential Fellowship at Georgia Tech he joined the Program in Ocean Science and Engineering. His research uses geochemical proxies, such as d13C, d18O isotopes, and climate modeling, in order to reconstruct past climatic conditions, such as temperature, ocean and atmosphere circulation to add context to recent climate change. In his spare time is competitor figure skater (started at age 3) and he was the Intermediate Men National Champion in 2013. He hopes to continue in the field of academia, with the end goal of becoming a professor.
